The Lower Plitvice Lakes system is situated in a canyon made of porous limestone. The highest rocks in the canyon rise about 40 meters. A travertine cascade can be seen between Kaluđerovac and Novakovica brod lake, which is the pathway for visitors starting from the NP Entrance 1. The trail leads down towards the Veliki Slap waterfall, and continues further upstream around the Lower Lakes in the direction of the Kozjak Lake. The highlight of the Plitvice tour is undoubtedly the Great Waterfall (Veliki Slap), which is also known as the tallest waterfall in Croatia.
The Plitvice National Park boasts the highest waterfall, Veliki Slap or the Great Waterfall. It stands tall at a height of 78 meters, located at the very end of the park. Here, the river Plitvice roars and plunges in a single drop into the river Korana. During winter, the waterfall freezes over and transforms into a stunning giant ice sculpture that is definitely worth seeing.
